This is an overview of the steps to configure and use JetStream for GCE Disaster Recovery Orchestration:

Configure and Start Protection

    • Subscribe to JetStream for GCE Disaster Recovery Orchestration from Google Cloud Marketplace.
    • Prepare the infrastructure for deployment:
      • Create a service account and role.
      • Grant access permissions to selected projects (see: Appendix A).
    • Deploy an Orchestration Appliance ("AROVA") for the region pair.
      • Grant AROVA administration access to additional users (optional).
    • Create Domains and Recovery Groups (optional).
    • Select VMs and start protection.
    • Configure a Runbook to settle VM recovery order (optional).

Recover Protected Virtual Machines After Failure (Regional or Zonal)

    • If the AROVA is not available, deploy a new AROVA for recovery in the secondary region.
    • Failover the Domains to the secondary region (Domain failover order can be customized).

Restore the Primary Region

    • Initiate failback.
    • The acting AROVA starts backward replication.
      • The AROVA Configuration Disk ("ACD") will complete its replication first before starting others.
    • Deploy an AROVA for recovery to the primary region (optional, recommended in case of regional failure).
    • Initiate and complete failback of Domains to the primary region.
