VMs with existing snapshots cannot be protected.

VMs with existing snapshots CANNOT be protected. On the JetStream DR VM protection screen, VMs with snapshots will be greyed out and cannot be selected for inclusion on the list of VMs for protection.

To add protection to a VM with an existing snapshot, first delete all snapshots of it using the VMware Snapshot Manager. Then, return to the protection screen and it should now be possible to add the VM to the protection list.

Snapshots can be created or deleted for protected VMs.

Snapshots CAN be created or deleted for VMs that are already being protected. While a snapshot operation is being processed, replication of the VM’s data will be briefly interrupted and then automatically resumed. However, the snapshot chain of the protected VM will NOT be preserved once the VM is restored, failed over, or failed back.

Performing intensive snapshot operations on protected VMs is strongly discouraged because a significant amount of system overhead will be introduced during the process and the VM snapshot chain will not be preserved for recovered VMs.

Reverting to a snapshot of a VM will cancel protection.

Reverting to a snapshot of a protected VM will result in protection being cancelled. This condition will be indicated in the user interface. However, the storage policy will not be automatically detached, requiring the user to manually delete old snapshots and remove the cancelled protection (which can be done through the user interface).
