Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attempting to un-protect a virtual machine from JetStream DR fails and displays the message \u201cFailed to detach storage policy from protected VM.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Un-protecting a VM may fail for reasons related to snapshots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • The VM to be un-protected currently has an associated snapshot, which is not allowed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
    \"\"
    The VM to un-protect has a snapshot.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
    \"\"
    Snapshot error reported in vCenter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • The VM may have had a snapshot that was previously deleted, but consolidation was not performed to clear it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Snapshots cannot be associated with a VM prior to un-protecting it from JetStream DR. This is a limitation of the VMware VAIO framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Remove any snapshot currently associated with the VM.

        <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Consolidate the VM to ensure any prior snapshot deletion is properly merged back into the base virtual disk.
