{"id":7060,"date":"2026-02-10T11:28:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T19:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jetstreamsoft.com\/portal\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=7060"},"modified":"2026-02-10T13:14:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T21:14:09","slug":"host-remediation-prerequisite-for-vlcm-enabled-clusters","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/jetstreamsoft.com\/portal\/jetstream-knowledge-base\/host-remediation-prerequisite-for-vlcm-enabled-clusters\/","title":{"rendered":"Host Remediation Prerequisite for vLCM-Enabled Clusters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">JetStream DR software can encounter configuration problems when installed in ESXi 7.x and ESXi 8.x environments with <strong>vLCM <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/techdocs.broadcom.com\/us\/en\/vmware-cis\/vsphere\/vsphere\/8-0\/managing-host-and-cluster-lifecycle-8-0\/about-vsphere-lifecycle-manager-new.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VMware vSphere Lifecycle Management<\/a>) enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If possible, avoid using vLCM while installing JetStream DR software by <a href=\"#vsphere-lifecycle-manager\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#vsphere-lifecycle-manager\">creating a new cluster without vLCM<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-alert wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\"><strong>Important<\/strong>: The option to use vLCM is applied when a cluster is initially set up. It is not possible to \u201cdisable\u201d vLCM after a cluster has been created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If JetStream DR software is installed on a vLCM cluster and configuration problems are encountered, they can be resolved by following a sequence of <a href=\"#cluster-remediation-steps\">cluster remediation steps<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Error Example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If vLCM is enabled when the cluster is created, configuration of JetStream DR software on that cluster can fail with the below error condition. Although the JetStream DR IO Filter will be added to the vLCM-enabled cluster during configuration, it cannot be applied to the base image until after a <a href=\"#resolve-host-issues-in-the-cluster\">host remediation process<\/a> has been completed or JetStream DR hosts have been moved to a non-vLCM configured cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1136\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/jetstreamsoft.com\/portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image.png\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">vSphere Lifecycle Manager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">For the most streamlined installation experience, install JetStream DR software on a cluster that was created <em>without vLCM features<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Create a new cluster where vLCM isn&#8217;t enabled <em>before<\/em> installing JetStream DR software.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">If JetStream DR software has already been installed and is experiencing configuration problems releated to vLCM, one option is to create a new cluster without vLCM and then migrate the JetStream DR hosts to it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"760\" height=\"525\" without vLCM features.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">If this is not feasible, then perform <a href=\"#cluster-remediation-steps\">cluster remediation steps<\/a> to allow JetStream DR software to be successfully configured on the vLCM managed cluster.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cluster Remediation Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The following steps explain how to resolve configuration issues that may occur with JetStream DR when it is added to a vLCM-enabled cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remediate the Cluster<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Navigate to: <em>Cluster \u2192 Updates \u2192 Image \u2192 Select the Host.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Open the <em>Actions<\/em> drop-down menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Select the <strong>Remediate <\/strong>option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: The remediate option may appear greyed out and display an error indicating the <em>Host is out of compliance with the image. <\/em>This typically occurs when a required add-on is missing from the cluster-level image. After the add-on has been added, the option should become available at the cluster level and then remediation can be performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Installation of JetStream DR IO Filter does not require the ESXi host to be rebooted; however, if a cluster with vLCM enabled has pending remediations, an ESXi host reboot may be necessary, as shown below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"315\" the ESXi host to be rebooted.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resolve Host Issues in the Cluster<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">After remediation has been completed for the hosts:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Go to the JetStream DR UI and navigate to <em>Configurations \u2192 Host Details<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">On the <em>Host Details<\/em> screen, click the <strong>Resolve Issue<\/strong> links to install IO Filter on the hosts of the cluster.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1980\" height=\"868\" src=\"https:\/\/jetstreamsoft.com\/portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-5.png\" issues in the cluster.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-info wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: You may still see the error <em>\u201cvCenter Server missing JetStream VM protection policy.\u201d<\/em> This indicates that additional remediation is required for the IO Filter management version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Repeat the <a href=\"#remediate-the-cluster\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#remediate-cluster\">Remediate the Cluster<\/a> step above to perform an additional remediation picking up any hosts that were still out of compliance with the image.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finishing Up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">After remediation has been completed the second time, repeat the steps to <a href=\"#cluster-remediation-steps\">resolve any remaining cluster issues<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">If completed successfully, no errors should be reported on the hosts from the JetStream DR UI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
