What Is: RVM, RocVA, and Test VM?

Representation VM (RVM)

RVMs are temporary VMs automatically created by the system and used by it during the (failover, failback, and restore) recovery process. One RVM is created for each VM being rehydrated. RVMs are automatically deleted by the system when no longer needed.

  • One RVM will be produced for each VM being protected.
  • “jss-rocva” VMs will appear whenever Continuous Failover, Planned Failover, or Failover is initiated.
  • The VMs are temporary and will automatically be deleted once the task is complete.
  • For each RVM one DHCP IP will be assigned.
    • DHCP is mandatory for RVMs.

Recovery from Object Cloud Virtual Appliance (RocVA)

An RocVA is a temporary virtual appliance that is deployed during the (failover and failback) recovery process. The RocVA facilitates rehydration of VMs and their data from the object store. The RocVA is automatically deleted by the system when no longer needed.

  • One RocVA will be created for each protected domain.
  • “jss-rocva” VMs will appear whenever Continuous Failover, Planned Failover, or Failover is initiated.
  • The VMs are temporary and will automatically be deleted once the task is complete.

Test VM

Test VMs are created during the operation of the test failover function. They are temporary VMs created in accordance with the settings specified for test failover. Test VMs represent the VMs that would be created during an actual failover thus allowing the failover operation and the VMs created by it to be fully tested before an actual live event takes place. After testing has been concluded, the test VMs will be removed from the system automatically.

  • One test VM will be produced for each protected VM being tested.
  • “jss-tvm” VMs will be created when test failover is initiated.
  • The VMs are temporary and will automatically be deleted once the task is complete.
