Protection Process
This is an overview of the AROVA managed protection process. Under normal circumstances, the protection status transitions through three states:
Figure 50: Protection status workflow.
Initializing
- During the Initializing phase AROVA configures asynchronous replication for VM disks by creating a Consistency Group, adding primary disks to it and creating associated secondary disks.

Initial Sync
- After Initializing is complete, the following state is Initial Sync.
- During Initial Sync, pre-existing data and with newly generated data are replicated to the secondary disks.
- While in this state, VMs are not recoverable because the secondary disks are not yet consistent.

Recoverable
- After Initial Sync, the VMs become Recoverable.
- Recoverable protection status is indicated for Recovery Groups, the VMs contained within them, and independent VMs.
- Current RPO values are calculated and displayed.
- Protected VMs can now be recovered.
