JetStream DR software is comprised of three main elements:

  • Management Server Virtual Appliance (MSA): The MSA is used to install and configure host components on the compute cluster and then to administer JetStream DR software.
  • DR Virtual Appliance (DRVA): The DRVA runs the data path DR components. Multiple DRVAs can be used concurrently for better scalability. Each DRVA has one or more replication log volumes attached as an iSCSI LUN or as a low-latency VDISK. The partitions are used to maintain replication logs and repositories for persistent metadata. 
  • Host Components (IO Filter packages):  VMware vSphere IO Filters are deployed to each vSphere host to enable continuous data intercept for each protected virtual machine’s virtual disks. The IO Filters are deployed through vSphere and run in the data storage path between the VMs and virtual disks. The IO Filters also monitor relevant events, such as vMotion, Storage vMotion, snapshots, etc.
