Azure VMware Solution Private clouds support two types of network segments, HCX L2 extension segments and NSX network segments (Workload Networking > Segments in Azure Resource Manager). As production deployments of Azure VMware Solution expand, there is often a combination of HCX extension segments from on-premises and AVS local NSX network segments.

  • When planning your JetStream DR deployment in an Azure VMware Solution private cloud, it is recommended to create one or more unique NSX network segments for JetStream DR virtual appliances (MSA, DRVA, RocVA, and RVM) VMs in AVS Private Cloud. These JetStream specific network segments must not overlap IP address ranges with any network segments on-premises or within the rest of your Azure deployment. We will cover different AVS compatible networking scenarios for JetStream DR later in this guide.
  • Use HCX network extension segments for your workload VMs according to your requirements for moving VMs from on-premises VMware systems to AVS for workload balancing or disaster recovery. JetStream DR virtual appliances should not be attached to HCX extension segments. JetStream DR virtual appliances are site specific and do not need (and should not) to be moved from one site to another.
