The following IP network services are used by JetStream DR:

DNS

JetStream DR components, and virtual appliances work best when Domain Name Services (DNS) is configured with forward (A) and reverse (PTR) records in place for MSA, DRVA, vCenter, storage accounts, etc. to enable system name to IP address lookup.

  • JetStream DR components query DNS to resolve the IP address and follow whatever network paths that have been configured to get to the IP address the DNS servers provide.
  • JetStream DR supports the use of Azure Private Link or private endpoints for storage access. These require DNS configuration that provides the private IP address when the storage account public FQDN is queried. Here are articles from Microsoft that provide further information about the DNS configuration:

DHCP

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service can be used to provide IP addresses and other configuration values to systems configured as DHCP clients.

  • JetStream DR requires DHCP for the IP address configuration of Representation VMs (RVM) during recovery, failover, and failback operations. The number of IP addresses required for RVMs is equal to the number of VMs being recovered.
  • While all JetStream DR virtual appliances can be configured to use DHCP, we recommend that the MSA, DRVA(s) and RocVA(s) be configured with static IP addresses. If DHCP will be used for these, then we recommend using DHCP reservations.
