Runbooks define the startup and operational settings applied to protected VMs during failover to the recovery site or failback to the protected site. Configurable parameters include VM startup sequence, startup delay, memory and CPU allocation, and network settings.

Runbooks can be applied to individually selected VMs (Independent VMs) or to groups of related VMs that must be recovered together to ensure application consistency (Runbook Groups). By default, all protected VMs are treated as Independent VMs, with runbook settings configured per VM. If multiple VMs need to be managed together, they can be organized into a Runbook Group, which provides additional control over recovery sequence and timing. Additionally, the startup order of multiple runbooks can be customized as well.

Note: Creation and use of runbooks is optional. VMs of Protected Domains are always recovered together, but the use of runbooks allows their recovery to be further customized and controlled. The following section can be skipped if runbooks will not be used.
