Product Overview
This is a high level overview of configuring and using Google Compute Engine Disaster Recovery by JetStream.
Protection
Subscribe to and configure the software to begin protecting Compute Engine VM instances:
- Enable necessary GCE APIs.
- Subscribe to the software from Google Cloud Marketplace.
- Prepare the infrastructure for AROVA deployment.
- Create a service account and role.
- Grant access permissions to select projects.
- Deploy an orchestration appliance (AROVA) for the region pair.
- Grant AROVA administration access to additional users (optional).
- Create Protected Domains and Recovery Groups (optional).
- Configure Recovery Runbooks (optional).
Failover
In the event of a disaster (partial or full failure), restore protected VMs:
- If AROVA is no longer available, deploy a new AROVA for recovery in the secondary region.
- Failover Protected Domains to the secondary region. Domain failover order and timing can be customized as needed.
Failback
After the primary region has been re-established:
- Prepare for failback by cleaning the primary region and re-deploying AROVA.
- The acting AROVA starts backward replication – The AROVA’s ACD replication will be completed first.
- AROVA can be manually replicated for recovery back to the primary region (optional, recommended in case of regional failure).
- Initiate and complete failback of Protected Domains to the primary region.
