Failover from Disaster
When the entire protected site becomes unavailable due to a catastrophic event, the primary goal is to recover production systems at a recovery site using JetStream DR software to failover protected VMs and data.
JetStream DR failover can be used in two different modes of operation:
- Failover Mode: Failover mode is used for disaster scenarios where protected VMs are recovered to a recovery site by re-hydrating all protected VM data from object storage. This mode can be used if low RTO is not of primary importance for production VMs. Resources required in the production environment are minimal and will only be consumed "as-needed" with the trade-off being higher RTO as resources are brought online.
- Continuous Failover Mode: Continuous Failover mode is pre-configured and initiated before any disaster event occurs. VMs and data are kept synchronized between the protected site and the recovery site during the normal course of operation. In response to a disaster, recovery can be quickly finalized and completed resulting in near-zero RTO.
